Description:

The 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report: Trust & Health Australia is a comprehensive 16-country study exploring the dynamics of trust in healthcare information across organisations, government, media, business, and NGOs. The report features three key themes this year:

  1. Politics and misinformation are destabilising health
  2. My doctor is the linchpin of health trust
  3. Trust + empowerment delivers the best health outcomes

The data highlights the stark reality that adoption of health innovation is at risk in this country with over half of Australians (55 per cent) concerned that technology will have a negative impact on healthcare in the next five years.

The extreme scepticism and fear Australians have when it comes to innovation and trust in institutions has been a result of an over politicised system highlighting the big role needed to rebuild Australian trust in the public health system.

The report provides an opportunity to engage with the pivotal findings and understand the steps we can take together to rebuild trust for enhanced health outcomes. Some of the other findings include:

  • Australians are placing greater responsibility on themselves and their primary care providers for managing their health
  • Trust and empowerment lead to better health decisions. When respondents trust the health ecosystem and feel empowered, they are more likely to invest in their health
